Thailand People Culture Customs
In this article on Thailand: People, Culture we are telling you that it's not the least bit rude in Thailand to ask you when someone first meets you what your age is, your religion, if you're married, how much money you make and what your political orientation is.
The The Custom among the People of Thailand is to Wai instead of shake hands. When a person Wai's they place their hands together as if praying and bow slightly. You don't have to Wai back to a person who is much lower than you in social status such as a child.
If you walk between two people or pass in front of a seated person it's considered polite to stoop slightly as you pass.
Your bare feet should never point at a monk or Buddha image because they are associated with a bad smell, are lowly and are used for kicking people right in the face in Muay Thai kickboxing.
In Thailand you shouldn't touch people on the head especially children because in Buddhism it's thought that the soul can leave through the top of the head which could be problematic if you're not already dead.
When you enter a temple ground you should not wear shoes, shorts, sleeveless shirts or short skirts and of course you should never climb on any buddha image.
You also should never stand in front of a Buddha image, eclipsing it for a photo of yourself.
Women should also be careful not to touch monks.
In Thailand there is a custom of appeasing the nature spirits of the land where you intend to put a building by erecting what's called a spirit house. It's a small model of a temple placed on a pole which is given offerings of fruit and incense etc... for the nature spirits to live in instead of the land you're taking from them. Hopefully they will like their new house much better and won't torment you with accidents or bad dreams but you have to keep it clean and give the spirits many offerings.
This has been Thailand People Culture Customs.
