Mandalas

Mandalas may variously represent enlightenment, the abode of the gods, the development of the universe or it's metaphysical structure. Carl Jung was of the opinion that they come from what he called the collective unconscious and can be seen as a communication from the true self as God. Mandalas teach us. The mandala is a reflection of the energy at the center of one's being which causes an unstopable hunger to drop all artificial personas and become one's true self. The circumference of the mandala holds what is owned by the self which are usually complimentary antagonists such as male and female, love and hate etc... The true self has within it one's consciousness, unconscious and the collective. The mandala represents you, as the little universe that you are, containing the energies of the divine.

Mandalas have an acausal character that reaches backwards in time. Mandalas usually arise spontaneously in middle age and/or due to mental disturbances from encountering conflicts intrinsic to the human condition and one is, therefore, confused. The construction of a mandala is an instinctual response and is an act of healing. One sees it as being freed from conflicts that can't be resolved and give a luminous consciousness that the core of one's journey is purposeful regardless of the antagonistic aspects. Mandalas are used in Tibetan Buddhism, Japanese Tantra called Kukai and Shingon startred by the inventor of the Hirigana script Kobo-Daushi, Navajo healing ceremonies and Tibetan invocations of the Gods.

When making a mandala, Tibetans sit in the middle where they are going to build it. If open ground is not available they put a seashell in the middle with colored spices that will be used for making the mandala in it. Then they push the vajra wand into it in order to dominate the earth/feminine principle. Strings are played which suppossedly make the Dyani Buddhas to reside in the mandala. If the monks can become one with the Adi Buddha they believe they will become a wheel turning king. The best military strategist and world leader who is the representative on earth of the ultimate laws of the universe. They believe he is the best teacher because he posesses the ultimate truth. He can and should see into the core of one's spirit. They believve that because of the mandala they can posess, in spirit, the place where the mandala is made and the surrounding area. The mandala is thought to affect all the people within it's sphere of influence.

After the gods have been called, the gods begin to live in the dream version of the palace that it represents even after the outward manifestation of the mandal is erased. It means that all the people living near where the mandala was made are now the subjects of the God/King whom the tantra master is the earthly representation of. When they eliminate the outward form of the mandala some of the spices used to create it are placed on the head of the monks which means they now take over rulership of the earth and it's inhabitants becasue they have placed a piece of the deities into themseslves.
In one form of the Navajo divination ritual, dark sand is flatened 1 1/2 feet in size. A white mountaiin is placed in the east and a black mountain in the west. A red pollen road is made which traverses between them. It represents one's journey from the cradle to the grave. On the good red road east of center, a quartz crystal is placed that will catch and tell the cause of the query. West of center is placed a tall rock. The quester is thought to be in the middle of the good red road under the North star which represents the compass of one's life. It's drawn pentagramically. Another crystal which will reveal the future is placed at the foot of the western mountain. Real arrow heads are placed in the west to banish the influences of ghosts and sorcerers. Arrowheads are also painted in the cross quarters. Downy feathers from the armpit of an eagle are placed on the mountains in the cardinal directions. Two painted feathers are added to the sides of the western mountain making a total of 4, whose quills point towards the center. Symbolsthat represent rainbows are placed near the circumference in the cross quarters and under a Eagle bone whistle located in the Southeast. Rainbows are also placed much nearer to the North star in the center in the cardinal directions.

As the sun goes down, the medicineman "places" everyone concerned, within the mandala along the good red road. The Navajo medicine man may have created an altered state and divinitory powers by chewing on the seeds of Devil's Thornapple after preparing the mandala, more recently by taking Peyote or just chanting/singing while "crying for a vision." The people involved play a note on the whistle in turn. A quarts crystal is rubbed against a stone usually used for making corn flour. The dust produced is put on the head, neck, chest, legs and feet of the querant. The querant is given a packet similar to a voodoo wanga with an Eagle feather coming out of it that he or she holds in their left hand while they hold a quartz crystal in their right hand. A light is brought to beam on the first crystal and then the crystal is examined for meaningful shapes within it whose shadows may also be seen on the tall rock. This should show the cause of the query. Next the second crystal is examined to know the future. The colors from the different parts of the mandala are put all over the body for protection afterwards.

Religious experience in Hinduism and Buddhism is a pathworking and they do not use the concept of congregation as much. Practice involves traveling on a path from one's house to the holy place which ends with meditations occuring at the architectural and/or mountain center. The soujourn is supposed to redraw the steps of one's spirit to Heaven or Nirvana. This is believed to happen at the core of a person's soul. This involves traveling in a spiral toward the center. Therefore, it's not necessary to have a large inner area because the center is interacted with while one is alone.

Even in big structures they usually have concentric hallways which end up in a small enclosure where the statuary is placed and which has enough room for one person to do bows.

They believe that good fortune comes down into the temple then spreads throughout the country.

This mandala can be used for meditation of course. What you may not have thought about is that it can also be used to improve your eyesight. With one of the larger products such as the poster, you can put your nose on the center, then do eye exercises. For example; looking up and down along the centerline, looking right and left, corner to corner, around the perimeter. You can also look at the center and walk far away and return. This is to strengthen depth perception.

It can also be used for good luck. It contains the Chinese characters for Peace, Love, Beauty, Money, Wife(if you want to be one or have one), Many useful posessions, Inheritance etc...

It also has the I Ching Hexagrams for both benefit and for breakthrough.

The blackness with red spirals in the corners represents the chaos from which everything arises. It is not the absence of form but rather the sum of all forms.

The next ring is sound and light. It has the colors of the rainbow and the Sanskrit letters for Do Re Mi etc...

The next yellow ring represents earth which has an swastika motif and chinese characters for everything wonderful in life like peace, health, money etc...

The blue ring is water and has my own symbols for the good things in life.

The next ring is fire and has a "magic" alphabet spelling words of good luck.

The next ring is air and has clouds and the chinese symbols for the different elements.

The white ring represents Chi energy variously represented as ether or spirit in other systems. It has golden dorje/lightening bolts and ancient Chinese script with I Ching symbols.

The inner courtyard/green represents the combination of Oriental and Western Astrology with characters such as a Scorpion with a Pigs head at the top.

They also have the important crops such as corn beans and squash growing between them.

On the outside of the temple is growing Emblic Myrobalan which is considered the most healing plant in Tibetan Buddhism and Bon Shamansism because of its balanced energetics. If you want to try an experiement, you can use the "astral" form here like they do in Voodoo. They just DRAW the plant if you can't get the real stuff then use it for healing.

The temple is divided into fire, water, wood and metal from the Oriental System.

The wooden forest gate's guardian is a tiger.

The water of the lake is guarded by the king of turtles.

The fire gate is guarded by the Phoenix/Firebird.

The Metal is guarded by the king of dragons.

In the center of the temple is two circles/ the god and goddes. Or you and your partner as the case may be.
